Badges?
Badges, let’s get into it.
I noticed in this course we love a badge. And look—I’m not saying I’m a hater, but I’m also not out here building a shrine to them either. I’ve truthfully never understood the point of badges. What am I, a social media Girl Scout?
Now, don’t get me wrong. After reading some of the articles (yes, I did my homework—thank you very much), I can kinda-sorta-maybe see how they can be useful. Like, I get the appeal of identifying top contributors in a group. I see the potential in a professional setting, where recognizing people for participation or leadership makes sense.
But in everyday personal social media life? Nah.
I know, I know. It’s not nice. Someone’s gonna call me out and say, “Badges build community!” And maybe they do. But for me? They give off the same energy as the person who parks their cart sideways in the grocery aisle and then stands there texting. Mentally, I’m spiraling. Can I explain it? No. Most likely chemically unbalanced. But here we are.
I’ve seen folks on Facebook rockin' their “Top Fan” badge like it’s a Nobel Prize. Sis. Karen. Please. You liked three posts and commented “So true 💯” on a meme. You are not Beyoncé. Calm down.
Look, I’m not saying this to be mean—if badges spark joy in your soul, bring that energy and wear them with pride. Live your truth. Shine bright like a bedazzled badge.
But let me have my moment. I’m in a silly, goofy mood this week. A little rant never hurt anybody. Unless you’re Karen… in which case, I know you’re already drafting a Facebook post about this.
Badge on, babes. Or don’t. Just don’t block the aisle. 🛒✨
