Hello Reddit

This week was one for the books, y’all. I experienced not one, but two major firsts: I finally made a Reddit account and tried my very first energy drink. Yes, both in the same week. Growth? Chaos? Who’s to say.

Now I know what you're thinking—"Aren’t you a little old to be diving into these things for the first time?" First of all, hush. I don’t turn 30 until October, and secondly, I just never saw the need before. But this class I’m in has got me exploring new websites like a digital Dora the Explorer, and honestly? I’m kinda living for it.

Let’s talk Reddit. Back in my awkward middle school days, Reddit was basically the Wild West of the internet—a sketchy, mysterious place where all the “cool” kids went to look up questionable things (you know what I mean ). I tried it once, got completely overwhelmed, and noped out real quick. Whether it was the layout or my preteen confusion, I left feeling like I had accidentally brushed up against the dark web and narrowly escaped with my soul intact.

Fast forward sixteen years, and guess what? Your girl made a profile. I still have no clue how to change my username, but I did give my little alien avatar a fabulous makeover. Priorities, right? And I’ve officially begun my lurking phase. 👀 Reddit is so much easier to navigate now, and I’m happy to report that no one has tried to solicit my kidneys—so we’re already ahead of the game.

Honestly, I feel kind of silly for not hopping on sooner. There’s so much activity and so many niche communities, it’s like walking into a never-ending buffet of internet chaos and curiosity. And for the first time ever, I even made a post. Gasp. The lurker is tiptoeing into full-on online community member status. Who am I??

Now, about that energy drink…
It was fine. Did it give me a little jolt? Sure. Did I feel like I had made a questionable life choice by hour three? Also yes. I think I’ll stick to coffee unless I’m in desperate need of a legal upper.

All in all, 10/10 week. Try new things. Give your Reddit alien a glow-up. Maybe rethink the energy drinks. As Natasha Bedingfield says, " The rest is still unwritten".

  1. You're never too old to try something new! I made my Reddit account during the pandemic. Several friends told me I should make one years before, but I never saw the point. Plus I didn't want to keep up with another account. Now, I really enjoy it and use it frequently!

Also, the pink highlight is difficult to read and is hard on the eyes.

  2. Look at you! Love it! Although about the energy drink ... yeah, I picked up a Celsius not realizing it, and let's just say never again. Even my 16 year old felt pity on me.
